How to create a Raspberry Pi image in VM Ware and then deploy that to an SD card and onto a Raspberry Pi.
Basic Steps
- Download the Raspberry Pi OS ISO. An ISO is what is commonly used to create a CD.
- ISO Download can be found here https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/raspberry-pi-desktop/
- Create a new Virtual Machine.
- File -> New
- Drag the ISO onto the "Select the installation method" dialog and click "Continue"
- On the Choose Operating Systems screen, choose "Linux" and "Debian 10.x".
- The option to customize the HD Space was not accessible.
- When prompted to install GRUB Boot Loader answer "No".
- The Raspberry Pi uses a different bootloading mechanism that is not compatible with GRUB1. Instead, the Raspberry Pi’s bootloader works with a file called start.elf, which is part of its own boot process
